What is the difference between inkjet and laser printers?
Technically speaking, inkjet printers use ink and laser printers use a laser and toner to print. But what does this mean for your printing needs? In short, inkjet printers are better for printing photos, less expensive, and print a little slower. Laser printers, on the other hand, are better for printing text and they print faster, which makes them ideal for large offices where a lot of documents are being printed. Should I choose color inkjet printers or black & white inkjet printers?
Whether you go with a color inkjet printer or a black & white inkjet printer will depend on your printing needs. If you need full color to print photos or marketing materials on a regular basis, you’ll need a color inkjet printer. Do I need special paper for inkjet printers?
Yes, there is inkjet paper available that will provide the best printing quality with this type of printer. There is also laser paper available for the best results when laser printing. You can use multipurpose paper in either type of printer, but never interchange inkjet paper and laser paper. The reason is because (and this is important to note), using inkjet paper in a laser printer can permanently damage the printer. There is a coating on inkjet paper that allows the ink to be absorbed better and prevent smearing when used in an inkjet printer, but that coating can get so hot in a laser printer that it melts and that’s when real damage can happen.
