The reason is because (and this is important to note), using inkjet paper in a laser printer can permanently damage the printer. There is a coating on inkjet paper that allows the ink to be absorbed better and prevent smearing when used in an inkjet printer, but that coating can get so hot in a laser printer that it melts and that’s when real damage can happen.
