Paper Mate Sharpwriters contain high-quality graphite
Writing implements include pens with ballpoint or gel ink, and pencils with lead that’s non-toxic graphite. Pencils are either sheathed sticks with graphite cores you sharpen into writing tips, or mechanical barrels that contain graphite sticks you twist or plunge out of the barrel for writing. Sharpwriter mechanical pencils contain #2 lead, a common graphite hardness that sits between a soft #1 and a hard #3 on the lead scale. Paper Mate enhances its #2 lead by bonding the graphite particles, so tips are less likely to break off during use. The Paper Mate leads also come in 0.7 mm thickness, also a balance between fine and bold tips. The #2, 0.7-mm lead is the one best suited for the everyday writing experience of students, professionals, and personal users.
Elements of the Sharpwriter barrel
Paper Mate pencils offer their own unique styling, with a bold yellow barrel that makes the pencil easy to find when set aside among other writing supplies. Round barrels fit snugly in your hand. The pencil has a white ribbed tip, to give you a good grip when twisting the graphite from the barrel. Tips also rest against a spring, acting as a shock absorber to minimize tip breakage. The pencil has an exposed eraser, so you don’t have to remove a cap to use it, and it’s pinched in place so it won’t fall out with frequent use.
Color variety
Like other colorful Paper Mate InkJoy gel pens, Papermate Sharpwriter mechanical pencils also come in colored barrels other than yellow. Colors include pink, purple, blue, aqua, green, and red, including both barrel and ribbed tip.
