Using scanners for high volume scanning
The large capacity of many sheet fed scanners makes them useful for scanning large numbers of documents. Transferring archives and backlogs of financial records or other documentation allows for saving physical storage space and also maintains copies of important information for easy access later. Many can even scan to an external hard drive. Frequent use of scanners requires regular replacement of certain scanner accessories and parts such as pickup rollers and separator pads. The scanner interface on the computer will usually show when these components are nearing the end of their usable life.
Office scanners from trusted brands
Document scanners are available from many top manufacturers, letting users know they are getting a well-built, quality product. Popular brands include:

Each of these manufacturers also offers a range of models with various capabilities, such as color scanning, double-sided scanning, and the ability to scan plastic or embossed cards. Similar to hand-held bar code scanners and readers, some scanner models are compact enough to carry to different locations.
Working with different documents
A scanner should be able to handle different document types besides those printed on plain paper. Many models from Quill can scan photos and postcards as well as receipts and forms printed in odd sizes. An image clean up feature is helpful for older documents that have faded or otherwise obscured images and characters. Users can also inspect scans before saving, making adjustments as needed.
Image scanners in a range of sizes
Scanner models vary in size, with some suited to placement on a desktop with a wired connection to a computer via USB. They also have compact designs that take up minimal space. When scanning bar codes, some handheld scanners are usually cordless for plenty of freedom of movement, but other office scanners are small enough for mobility, and you can take them to different locations when scanning at multiple sites.
