How Bic 4-color pens work
Four color-pens are ballpoints that use tiny metal balls that roll along paper and release ink, just like with Bic black pens or other ballpoint styles. Barrels are wide enough to hold four ink reservoirs inside without being too large to hold comfortably. Along the tops of the pens are four color-coded buttons that users press to select each color.

Some barrels, however, come in shiny lime, pink, purple, and blue. Four-color fashion designs come in pastel barrel colors that include pastel purple, pink, blue, and green.
