Telephone service options

Today’s multi line phone systems provide an array of private branch exchange (PBX) services to accommodate calls to and from clients and customers, and to support intra-company communications. Cable-based digital services for multi line phone systems have largely replaced landline analog telephony with converters that allow businesses to plug into existing RJ11 and Cat3 landline jack and cable connections for transmitting digital signals. Digital systems also include options like internet-based services that operate with voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phone systems, requiring only simple replacement RJ45 jacks and Cat5 or Cat6 cabling. An additional VoIP option, called session-initiation protocol (SIP) services, lets businesses unify all telephone, video-conferencing, data transmission, and internet functions into one console.

Also part of the mix are cordless phones using Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) technology. It delivers full-system services from base stations to mobile handsets hundreds of feet away, including intercom functionality. A variety of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems are available to provide back-up power for digital services so that businesses can maintain communications during outages.

Multi line phone system options

A variety of phone systems with 2, 4, 5, or more lines give businesses several expandability options. Using port splitters with digital consoles, businesses can branch out into multiple phones per line. For instance, many 6-line phone systems can offer up to 16 phone extensions, including a variety of desk phoneslike those used for teleconferencing. Digital expansion cards for central system consoles provide multiple ports for adding phones as well. Multi line cordless phone systems are also expandable, some with auto-sensing multi-handset modules that communicate automatically with base stations wherever they’re placed, and those with Bluetooth® connectivity to sync services with smartphones.

Features of the digital systems

Full-service plans for multi line business phone systems work with an array of office phones. Standard functionality includes call waiting and forwarding, as well memory speed dialing. Many systems offer auto-attendant features like call-routing to extensions, auto-dial by voice, and direct transfer to voicemail. Voicemail is available for company wide or personnel-specific messages, including outgoing announcements besides incoming messages. Still other systems feature the following:

• Call forwarding to remote cell or home numbers
• Work group paging
• Hi-def transmission and reception
• 6-way conferencing
• Trilingual LCD menu screens
