Restroom sign graphics and colors
Signs for gender-specific, gender-neutral, and handicap-accessible restrooms are part of a broad family of facility, notice, and maintenance signs falling under the umbrella of safety supplies that enable people to locate or avoid common-access areas in private establishments and public venues. Finding the right washroom easily and quickly is a key health and hygiene right. Many bathroom signs include traditional health-sign blue and white graphics or legends, although many signs also now come in white graphics on black backgrounds.
Private and public washrooms also require safety signs to indicate that they’re closed for cleaning or repair. A more recent development in signage includes wall-mounted gender signs above washroom entrances, angled at 45 degrees so visitors can see them from a side or a front-view angle. Many come with an ultraviolet ray-resistant coating so they can hang outside without their graphics fading.
In addition to wheelchair-bound graphics to indicate people who need wider space for hygiene, bathroom signs include those for the visually impaired. The signs contain raised graphics of gender graphics or legends, and they have raised braille captions indicating gender at the bottom of the signs.
