Two DeskJet 3520 models with the same cartridges

Many HP printer cartridges are cross-compatible with other HP printers. DeskJet 3520 ink cartridges fit not only the standard 3520 all-in-one printer with scan, copy, and print capabilities, but also HP’s DeskJet Ink Advantage 3520 all-in-one, offering twice the page yields at the same cost.

Each model uses four separate HP 564 cartridges with CMY and black inks. The ink consists of pigment-based black and dye-based CMY. Black pigment ink dries quickly on paper and offers archival-quality text and fade-resistant photos as it renders with color-ink input. The bright, vibrant dye-based color ink provides color saturation for images. Both black and color HP 564 ink are Photosmart® cartridges, since they’re compatible with many HP Photosmart printers specifically for lab-quality photos.

HP 564 cartridges offer different resolutions on presentation-quality media

Model 3520 cartridges work with printers to offer varying printing resolutions, so users can cost-effectively print when necessary. The resolution modes include draft, normal, plain-best, and photo-best printing, between 300 x 300 and 600 x 600 dots per inch (dpi). For optimal output, max-dpi mode is available for 1200 x 1200 dpi printing, with optimized output of up to 1200 x 4800 dpi. HP 564 ink prints on any standard printer paper, but performs exceptionally well on high-premium, presentation-quality paper for final reports and proposals, brochures, and high-gloss photos.

HP 564 cartridges in three separate yields

Most ink and toner come in cartridges that offer either standard or high-capacity page yields. HP 564XL ink cartridges are HP’s high-yield ink for the model 3520, but ink also comes in HP 564 economy cartridges for occasional printing needs. The following are the per-cartridge output volumes:

• HP 564 standard-yield black, 250 pages
• HP 564XL black, 550 pages
• HP 564 economy black, 235 pages
• HP 564 standard-yield CMY cartridges, 300 pages
• HP 564XL CMY cartridges, 750 pages
• HP 564 economy CMY cartridges, 300 pages

HP 564 standard-yield and XL black cartridges are available for select printers that use five separate cartridges in HP’s Photosmart® printer series; the ink is dye-based and designated as HP 564 Photo ink cartridges.
